New Year's Eve
Ulverscroft Large Print Books, 1997 - 416 страница
Erica has been mourning the loss of closeness between herself and her twin sister, Heather. When they both give birth within weeks of each other, that closeness is recaptured. Erica's daughter Sarah and Heather's son David are like the siblings their mothers were as children. Three years later David is killed in an accident, and Sarah begins talking to him in Heaven. While Erica and her husband are alarmed at Sarah's seeming obsession, Heather encourages it and begins to drive an emotional wedge between Sarah and her mother. Erica knows she must reclaim her daughter from Heather's grief, and free herself, and her child, to live in the present.

Mommy , ” she said , " I think you were having a bad dream . " " You okay ? " Edgar asked me . " I'm fine , " I said . Sarah asked : “ Did you see him ? " “ Who ? ” “ David . ” “ Yes . ” “ Erica ! ” Edgar said .
The dollhouse lit up like the dream it was , and Sarah , exulting , was so thrilled that for once she forgot to be scared of my father and threw her arms around him . “ Now David can come at night , ” she said .
It was exactly the way it had been with her dreams . She stared , not seeing the world ... Get down , Mommy , ” she said , she said , though whether she was speaking to me in a dream or in reality , I had no idea . I got back down .
