Mr. Boright, from the general committee, to which had been referred House bill, entitled

H. 43. An act to authorize towns to purchase stone crushers and necessary equipments;

Reported adversely to its passage, and the third reading of the bill was refused.

Mr. Cutting, of Plainfield, presented the petition of H. Hill and 55 others, owners and occupants of real estate in the town of Marshfield, praying the legislature to establish a new town line between the town of Marshfield and the town of Plainfield;

Which was referred to the committee on town lines.

A message was received from the Senate by Mr. Skeels, their Assistant Secretary, as follows:

MR. SPEAKER:

I am directed to inform the House that the Senate have adopted on their part a joint resolution entitled:

Joint resolution relating to joint assembly for the election of certain State officers;

In the adoption of which the concurrence of the House is requested,

They have considered a joint resolution originating in the House of the following title:

Joint resolution granting use of the hall of the House of Representatives to the Vermont Officers' Association;

And have adopted the same in concurrence.

Mr. Mead, of Rutland City, offered the following joint resolution:

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That His Excellency, the Governor be requested to invite Major General Lewis A. Grant to visit the State capitol during the week of the meeting of the Vermont Officers' Association as the guest of the State.

And be it further resolved that the auditor of accounts be directed to draw his order for the payment of the expense incurred by General Grant upon such visit not to exceed the sum of two hundred dollars;

Which was read and referred to the committee on appropriations.

Joint resolution from the Senate as follows:

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives, That the two Houses meet in joint assembly, on Thursday, October 18th, at two o'clock and thirty minutes in the afternoon to elect a Chief Judge and six Assistant Judges of the Supreme Court, a Superintendent of Education, a Sergeant-at-Arms, an Adjutant and Inspector General, a Judge Advocate General and three Trustees of the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College;

Was read and on motion of Mr. Senter, of Montpelier, ordered to lie.

On motion of Mr. McCuen, of Vergennes, the House adjourned.

House bill, entitled

H. 14. An act to amend section 1146 of the Vermont Statutes, relating to justices' suits;

Was read the third time and passed.

Mr. Senter, of Montpelier, called up joint resolution from the Senate relating to joint assembly for the election of certain officers;

And the question being, Will the House adopt the joint resolution in concurrence? Mr. Senter, of Montpelier, moved that the House propose to the Senate to amend the joint resolution by striking out all after the first line, and inserting in lieu thereof the following, That the two Houses meet in joint assembly on Thursday, October 18, 1906, at two o'clock and thirty minutes in the afternoon, to elect a Superintendent of Education, a Sergeant-at-Arms, an Adjutant and Inspector General, a Judge Advocate General and three trustees of the University of Vermont and State Agricultural College; and that the election of the Judges of the Supreme Court be postponed until a date to be hereafter fixed by joint resolution;

Which was agreed to, and the joint resolution as proposed to be amended, was adopted in concurrence with a proposal of amendment.

Mr. McCuen, of Vergennes, offered the following joint resolution:
