Resolution

Relative to the payment of Interest due on the first February next, on the state debt.

WHEREAS, certain appropriations necessary to the prosperity of the commonwealth, have been made since the commencement of the present session, which were not embraced among the estimated demands upon the treasury by the reports of the Commissioners of the Internal Improvement .fund, and of the State Treasurer, by which anticipation the state treasury will be deprived of part of its present available means to pay the interest due on the state debt, on the first of February next; Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, That the State Treasurer be, and he is hereby authori zed to apply a sum not exceeding one hundred and fifty thousand dollars, of the Surplus Revenue lately received by this state from the treasury of the United States, to the making up the deficiency in the semi-annual payment of interest due on the first of February next, and to meet the ordinary and current demands of the government, the said money to be drawn by him from the bank, or banks, in which it is now, or may be deposited, and applied to the purpose aforesaid, any law to the contrary notwithstanding. Resolution

To correct a mistake in the fourteenth section of the act entitled "An act authorizing the Governor to incorporate the Catawissa and Towanda Railroad company, and for other purposes," passed the first day of April, eighteen hundred and thirty-six.

WHEREAS, by the fourteenth section of the act entitled "An act authorizing the Governor to incorporate the Catawissa and Towanda Railroad company, and for other purposes," passed the first day of April, eighteen hundred and thirty-six, The Milesburg and Smethport Turnpike Road company," is by mistake, called The Milesborough and Smethport Township Road company," whereby the intention of the Legislature therein expressed, to subscribe to the said company, is defeated; Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, That the five thousand dollars in the said section of the said act, directed to be subscribed by the Governor, on the part of the commonwealth, is hereby declared to be intended for the said Milesburg and Smethport Turnpike Road company, and the Governor is hereby authorized and required to subscribe the said five thousand dollars to the said Milesburg and Smethport Turnpike Road company, in the same manner, and upon the terms in the said section of the said act enacted and prescribed, any mistake in the name of the said company, to the contrary notwithstanding.

Resolution

Relative to the La Fayette Guards and Warrington Rangers in the county of York, the Irish Greens and the Jackson Independent Blues of the city of Pittsburg, and the Light Infantry corps of the Washington Grays of the borough of Reading,in the county of Berks. Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly

met, That the La Fayette Guards and Warrington Rangers in the county of York, and the Pittsburg Irish Greens and Jackson Independent Blues of the city of Pittsburg, in Allegheny county, shall, from and after the passage of this resolution, be exempted from parading and drilling with any regiment or battalion of militia, except at the discretion, of said companies: Provided, That the above named companies Proviso. shall meet on the proper number of days required by law, in their company capacity.

Resolved, That the act prescribing that volunteer companies not attached to a volunteer battalion, shall be attached to and trained with the militia, on days of regimental or battalion trainings, be, and the same is hereby repealed, so far as respects the Light Infantry corps of the Washington Grays of the borough of Reading, in the county of Berks.

Resolution

Relative to the claims of David Morgan.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, and it is hereby enacted by the authority of the same, That the Canal Commissioners are hereby authorized and required to examine the work done by David Morgan, on section No. 16, on the Allegheny Portage Railroad, and settle and adjus this claims, upon principles of justice and equity, having a due regard to the provisions of the contract, and shall have power to issue subpoenas, and award attachments to compel the attendance of witnesses, in the usual manner, and the Auditor General is hereby

authorized to audit the same in the way and manner other claims against this commonwealth are audited.

Resolutions

Relative to the Tariff.

WHEREAS, exertions are now making in Congress to effect a reduction of the present tariff, as established by the act of Congress of March second, eighteen hundred and thirtythree; And whereas, capitalists have been induced to make investments under the said law of Congress, on the subject of the tariff, in full confidence and faith that the said law would not be altered until the year eighteen hundred and forty-two; Therefore,

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, That our Senators in Congress be instructed, and our Representatives requested, to oppose the passage of any bill which may have for its object any reduction whatever in the present tariff, as established by the provisions of the act of Congress passed on the second day of March, one thousand eight hundred and thirty-three.

Resolved, That the Governor of this commonwealth be directed to forward a copy of these resolutions to each of our Senators and Representatives in Congress, with a request to lay the same before the respective bodies of which they are members.

Resolution

For the payment of certain expenses of David Scott, late president of the Board of Canal Commissioners.

Resolved by the Senate and House of Representatives of the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, in General Assembly met, That the sum of eighty-seven dollars and twenty-five cents, shall be paid out of any money in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, to David Scott, Esquire, of Luzerne county, late president of the board of Canal Commissioners, being for expenses incurred by him in May, eighteen' hundred and twenty-seven, in the execution of his public duty,. and not yet refunded; and the further sum of one hundred dollars, for extra services rendered to the commonwealth.on. the same occasion.
