Married.] At Evesham, Mr. Jofeph Harper, of Chilvers Coton, Warwickshire, to Mifs Cooper, only daughter of the Rev. Mr. Cooper, vicar of Evetham.

At Bromsgrove, Mr. Weftwood, of Stourbridge, to Mrs. Tomkins, of the former place.

Died.] At Tything, near Worcester, fuddenly, in the 58th year of his age, Mr. Thomas Powell. Mr. P. was a native of York, and made his firft appearance on the York ftage, in 1767. The preceding year he played with a Mr. Woodcock's company, at Wolverhampton, from which town he eloped with, and married Mifs Dolly Steward, firft coufin to Mifs Elizabeth Wrottefley, (niece to the duchess of Bedford and the marquis of Stafford) who, in 1769, married the duke of Grafton. Mrs. Powell, in confequence of this imprudent alliance, was difcarded by her relations, and died at Huil, in 1773. In 1775 Mr. Powell quitted the York ftage and came to Mancheiter, where he married a lady with a confiderable fortune. He then commenced manager, and formed a circuit of country towns, but became fo overwhelmed with difficulties and misfortunes, that he was confined for debt. On his en largement, he was involved in fuch diftrefs, that he was glad to perform any menial bufinefs of the ftage, at Birmingham. In May, 1789, he received at Swanfea, in South

Wales, in the midft of his embarrassments, the unexpected and happy intelligence, that a relation of Mrs. Powell had died fuddenly, without a will, in Manchester, and had left his wife heir to a fortune of 11,000l. Thus once more restored to affluence and independence, he took his final leave of the stage, and retired to enjoy otium cum dignitate, in the vicinity of Worcester.

At Perfhore, greatly lamented, in his 75th year, John Langley, efq. formerly an eminent attorney at Bridgnorth. In his profeffional capacity he was able, juft, and liberal; in his private character, an affectionate husband, a tender parent, and a faithful friend.

At Rofs, in his 75th year, Mr. Thomas Prichard. He was formerly a tanner in Hereford, but had for feveral years paft retired from bufinefs. His charities were very extenfive, and muft of confequence render his decease a very fevere loss to the neighbouring poor.

At Tupfley, near Hereford, in his 68th year, Mr. Philip Lewis, late an opulent farmer at the Dyffrin.

At Nant-y-Glafter, near the Hay, aged 54, Mrs. Blafhfield.

In the 99th year of her age, Mrs. Prifcilla Frere, widow of the late Mr. Anthony Frere, of Wefthide Court, and fifter to the late John Carwardine, efq. of Prefton Wynne.

Pinnell, formerly fellow of Magdalen col lege, Oxford, and rector of Duckington, in which parish he refided upwards of 51 years. His character cannot, perhaps, be better traced than in the following words fpoken by the earl of Harcourt, when he fold his estate and manor of Ducklington to its prefent proprietor: " and for a paftor you will find an Ifraelite indeed." Mr. Pingell was likewife upwards of 50 years prebendary of Chichester, and rector of Burton and Coates, in Suffex. NORTHAMPTONSHIRE.

At the fame place, on the 1ft inftant, Mifs Eleanor Douglas, a maiden lady, in her 9.5th year, Notwithstanding her great age, the never made ufe of fpectacles; and, but a few days previous to her death, remarked to a friend, that she could not recollect having been ill a fingle week during her whole life. She was fifter to the prefent bishop of Salif bury, and alfo to fir W. H. Douglas, of Springwood-park, in this county.

In the 87th year of his age, Charles Wefton, efq. alderman of Mancroft-ward, one of bis majesty's juftices of the peace for the County of Norfolk, and fellow of the Antiquarian fociety. The firft bank eftablished in Norfolk was under his direction, and opened in 1756.

As Mr. Gooch, of Stratton Strawlefs, was returning from Coltishall corn market, he was killed by a fall from his horfe. He appeared to have been dragged to a confiderable diftance, and was found in a very mangled tate, with his foot hanging in the stirrup.

At Winchefter affizes, J. Cuffel, a brewer's Tervant, was tried and convicted on a charge of aiding and abetting prifoners of war to efcape out of Porchefter caftle. It was proved, that he had conveyed two French captains, inclofed in two cafks, out of the prifon, on his dray, by which means they effected their efcape. He was fentenced to Fix months imprisonment.

Mr. Bound, a farmer at South Damerham, put an end to his exiftence, by hanging himfelf in his ftable.

On Thursday, the 20th inft. Henry Redhead Yorke, efq. was liberated from Dorchefter Caftle, after an imprisonment of four years. He has paid a fine of 2001. and entered into fureties for 2000l. When the fheriff brought the welcome intelligence of his releafe, he exclaimed, in the language of Virgil:

Refpexit tamen et longo poft tempore venit.

Pikes, for arming the peafantry, in the event of an invafion, have been depofited in the barracks at Weymouth, Dorchester, Bridport, Wareham, and other places bordering on the fouthern coaft.
