God grant that it be not found in the heritage of Jacob; for all such things shall be far from the godly, and they shall not wallow in their sins.

Use not thy mouth to intemperate swearing, for therein is the word of sin. The man that is accustomed to opprobrious words, will never be reformed, all the days of his life.

Remember thy father and thy mother, when thou sittest among great men. Be not forgetful before them, and so thou, by thy custom, become a fool, and wish that thou hadst not been born; and curse the day of thy nativity.

Two sorts of men multiply sin; and a third will bring wrath a hot mind is as a burning fire; it will never be quenched till it be consumed. A fornicator in the body of his flesh will never cease till he hath kindled a fire. All bread is sweet to a whoremonger, he will not leave off till he die. A man that breaketh wedlock, saying thus in his heart, who seeth me? I am compassed about with darkness, the walls cover me, and no body seeth me; what need I to fear? the most High will not remember my sins: such a man only feareth the eyes of men, and knoweth not that the eyes of the Lord are ten thousand times brighter than the sun, beholding all the ways of men, and considering the most secret parts.

He knew all things ere ever they were created: so, also, after they were perfected, he looked upon them all.

This man shall be punished in the streets of the

city, and, where he suspecteth not, he shall be taken.

Thus shall it go also with the wife that leaveth her husband, and bringeth in an heir by another: for first, she hath disobeyed the law of the most High: and secondly, she hath trespassed against her own husband: and thirdly, she hath played the whore in adultery, and brought children by another man.

She shall be brought out into the congregation, and inquisition shall be made of her children. Her children shall not take root, and her branches shall bring forth no fruit. She shall leave her memory to be cursed; and her reproach shall not be blotted out.

And they that remain shall know that there is nothing better than the fear of the Lord, and that there is nothing sweeter than to take heed unto the commandments of the Lord. It is great glory to follow the Lord, and to be received of him is long life.

Wisdom shall praise herself, and shall glory in the midst of her people. In the congregation of the most High shall she open her mouth, and triumph before his power. I came out of the mouth of the most High, and covered the earth as a cloud.

In three things was I beautified, and stood up beautiful both before God and men: the unity of brethren, the love of neighbours, a man and a wife that agree together.

Three sorts of men my soul hateth, and I am

greatly offended at their life: a poor man that is proud; a rich man that is a liar; and an old adulterer that doteth.

If thou hast gathered nothing in thy youth, how canst thou find any thing in thine age? Oh! how comely a thing is judgement for grey hairs; and for ancient men to know counsel! Oh! how comely is the wisdom of old men; and understanding and counsel to men of honour! Much experience is the crown of old men, and the fear of God is their glory.

There be nine things which I have judged in mine heart to be happy; and the tenth I will utter

with my tongue :—a man that hath joy of his children;-and he that liveth to see the fall of his enemy.-Well is he that dwelleth with a wife of understanding, and that hath not slipped with his tongue,—and that hath not served a man more unworthy than himself:-Well is he that hath found prudence, and he that speaketh in the ears of them that will hear :-Oh, how great is he that findeth wisdom!-Yet is there none above him that feareth the Lord.

Give me any plague, but the plague of the heart and any wickedness, but the wickedness of a woman: any affliction, but the affliction from them that hate me: and any revenge, but the revenge of

enemies.

There is no head above the head of a serpent; and there is no wrath above the wrath of an enemy.

I had rather dwell with a lion and a dragon, than to keep house with a wicked woman.

The wickedness of a woman changeth her face, and darkeneth her countenance like sackcloth. Her husband shall sit among his neighbours; and, when he heareth it, shall sigh bitterly. All wickedness is but little to the wickedness of a woman: let the portion of a sinner fall upon her.

As the climbing of a sandy way is to the feet of the aged, so is a wife full of words to a quiet man, A woman, if she maintain her husband, is full of anger, impudence, and much reproach.

A wicked woman abateth the courage; maketh a heavy countenance, and a wounded heart: a woman, that will not comfort her husband in distress, maketh weak hands and feeble knees.

Of the woman came the beginning of sin, and through her we all die. Give the water no passage: neither a wicked woman liberty to gad abroad. If she go not as thou wouldest have her, cut her off from thy flesh, and give her a bill of divorce, and let her go.

Blessed is the man that hath a virtuous wife, for the number of his days shall be double.

A virtuous woman rejoiceth her husband, and he shall fulfil the years of his life in peace.

A good wife is a good portion, which shall be given in the portion of them that fear the Lord.

Whether a man be rich or poor, if he have a

good heart toward the Lord, he shall at all times rejoice with a cheerful countenance.

There be three things that mine heart feareth; and, for the fourth, I was sore afraid: the slander of a city, the gathering together of an unruly multitude, and a false accusation: all these are worse than death.

But a grief of heart and sorrow is a woman that is jealous over another woman, and a scourge of the tongue which communicateth with all.

An evil wife is a yoke shaken to and fro he that hath hold of her, is as though he held a scorpion.

A drunken woman, and a gadder abroad, causeth great anger; and she will not cover her

own shame.

If thy daughter be shameless, keep her in straitly, lest she abuse herself through over much liberty. Watch over an impudent eye: and, marvel not, if the trespass against thee.

The grace of a wife delighteth her husband; and her discretion will fatten his bones.

A silent and loving woman is a gift of the Lord; and there is nothing so much worth as a mind well instructed.

A shame-faced and faithful woman is a double grace; and her continent mind cannot be valued. As the sun when it riseth in the high heaven; so is the beauty of a good wife in the ordering of her house.
