Candidates for admission into the Freshman Class in Bowdoin College, at and after September 1820, will be examined in Cicero's Select Orations-the Bucolics Georgics, and neid of Virgil-Sallust-the Greek Testament-Dalzel's Collectanea Græca Minora--in the writing of Latin-in the fundamental rules of Ariths metic, and in Cummings' Geography. They must also produce satisfactory credentials of a good moral char'acter. All persons admitted to an advanced standing must pay six dollars and sixty seven cents, for every tull term's advancement. In the course of instruction pursued at this College, the following books are studied; viz.-Sallust,*-Horace- Livy-Excerpta Latina-Collectanea Græca Majora-Murray's English Grammar-Cummings' Geography-Blair's Rhetoric--Hedge's Logic--Playfair's Euclid-Webber's Mathematics Enfield's Natural Philosophy-Henry's Chemistry-Cleaveland's Mineralogy-Priestly's Lectures on History-Paley's evidences of Christianity-Paley's Natural TheologyButler's Analogy-Locke on the Human Understanding--Burlemaqui on Natural and Politic Law--and Stewart on the philosophy of the human mind. tion is also paid to various compositions in English,Latin and Greek. Courses of Lectures on Natural Philosophy, Chemistry and Mineralogy are annually given. A course of Lectures on Theology is also given by the President. The under graduates are required to attend public worship at the usual and appointed place. Provided, however, that any student, who desires to attend statedly, on the service of any other regular christian society in Brunswick, may have liberty if of the age of twenty one years, by signifying his desire to the Executive Government; or, if a minor, by producing to the Gov ernment a written request from his parent or guardian, for that purpose.
