vernor of Egypt—nothing of this his glory did he receive from his father Jacob; nor did Chrift derive, any thing from our nature, but the fellowfhip of our fufferings; his glory was all his own, the glory which God gave him, the glory of effential Deity. Tell my father of all my glory in Egypt— faid Jofeph unto his brethren. And let human nature receive with joy the tidings of a glorified Saviour: Flefh and heart must fail, but the doctrine of a God in Chrift, enables us to fay with exulting tranfport, I know that my Redeemer liveth. More than the good of all the land of Egypt is ours-Ours is the Heaven where Chrift is.__He has already taken poffeffion of it in our nature, and is gone before us, to prepare a place for us, that where he is,

there we may be alfo. With fuch an. inheritance referved in Heaven for us, the tranfitory goods of this prefent world are to be regarded but as ftuff; of no value or account, when compared with the glory that fhall be revealed.

THE waggons which Jofeph fent from Egypt to convey his father thither, may represent to us those means of grace and ordinances of the church, which are ordained and instituted by Chrift himself, to bring us near unto God. These are fo many proofs of his love and gracioufnefs, fo many evidences of his care and concern for us; by these our fpirit is revived; for Is any man afflicted; let him pray. Are our minds harraffed with doubts and fears; let us inquire what faith the Scripture; and rely on the pro

mifes of God. Let us go to the holy communion of our Saviour's body and blood, with a devout fenfe of the greatnefs of the benefit we there commemorate, fo fhall we find refrefhment in thefe ordinances of divine appointment. These means of grace, if used with an eye to God, will lead to him, and his bleffing will attend them. Thus let us walk in peace with brotherly love and Chriftian charity towards each other, looking unto Jefus, the Author and Finisher of our faith, the most perfect Pattern of obedience, the great Teacher of righteousness, the Giver of every good gift.

JACOB AT BEER-SHEBA.

GENESIS, xlvi. 1, 2, 3, 4.

And Ifrael took his journey with all that he had, and came to Beer-fheba, and offered facrifices unto the God of his father Ifaac. And God fpake unto Ifrael in the vifions of the night, and faid, Jacob, Jacob; and he faid, Here am I. And he faid, I am God, the God of thy father: Fear not to go down into Egypt, for I will there make of thee a great nation. I will go down with thee into Egypt and I will alfo furely bring thee up again: and Jofeph fhall put his hand upon thine eyes.
