THE DEATH AND BURIAL OF JACOB

AND OF JOSEPH.

GENESIS, 1.7.

And Jofeph went up to bury his father. AFTER his dying declarations to his twelve fons, Jacob renews to them the fame charge which he had before given to Jofeph refpecting his burial

I am to be gathered unto my people. this was the idea of the dying man concerning the change he was about to experience: By the phrafe, my people, he understood his forefathers; and as a fign of his faith, that his foul would be with them in death, he de

The cave of Abraham was the burying place of his fathers: It was purchased by that Patriarch of the children of Heth: Confeffing himself a ftranger and a fojourner with them, this was the only poffeffion he defired among them; and the inheritance thereof he tranfmitted to his defcendants.
