people, nations, and languages fhould ferve him: His dominion is an everlafting dominion, which shall not pass away; and his kingdom, that which fhall not be deftroyed Becaufe he humbled himfelf and became obedient unto death, even the death of the crofs, God hath highly exalted him, and given him a name that is above every name; that at the name of Jefus, every knee fhould bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth; and that every tongue fhould confefs that Jefus Chrift is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.

WELL may we exclaim with the Egyptian prince.

Can we find fuch a

one as this is, a man in whom the spirit of

God is!

For Chrift received not the

Spirit of God by meafure

In him dwelt

all the fulness of the Godhead bodily

And out of his fulness we all have re

ceived, and grace for grace.

Wifdom of God incarnate

made flesh; which came and dwelt among us, and we beheld his glory, the glory as of the only begotten of the Father, full of grace and truth.

FORASMUCH then,O CHRIST,as there is none fo difcreet and wife as thou art

be thou our wisdom, and let us learn of thee the things which make for our peace: Thou shalt be over us, the government shall be upon thy fhoulder, and according to thy word fhall all thy people be ruled.

THE language of Pharaoh may convey too bold a figure, as addreffed to the young Hebrew, when he fays Without thee fhall no man lift up his hand

or foot in all the land of Egypt: But the fame words are no more than the literal truth, when we apply them to the fpiritual Jofeph, Without whom we can do nothing. Every good emotion, every good defire; the honeft endeavour, and the ability to perform, are alike from HIM, who worketh in us, both to will, and to do, of his good pleafure.

WHAT Pharaoh faid to the Egyptians when the famifhed people cried out unto him for bread, we may alfo apply to ourselves, if instead of Jofeph, we understand it as fpoken of Jefus, the true difpenfer of the bread of lifeGo unto Jefus, and what he faith unto you, do. But how shall we go unto Jefus He is not now travelling up and down the world, as in the days of his flefh, when the hungry multitudes

were fed at his command from a few barley loaves and fmall fifhes. He is indeed abfent from us, as to the body, but he is prefent with us in fpirit, for where two or three are gathered together in his name, there he is, in the midft of them. Would you find Chrift, you muft feek him in the ordinances of his appointment, in prayer, in hearing the word, and receiving the bleffed facra ment. Inftead of his bodily prefence, with which he favoured his firft difciples, he vouchfafes to his faithful followers at this day, another comforter, his fpirit, even the fpirit of truth; which the world cannot receive, becaufe it feeth him not, nor knoweth him; but Believers know him, for he dwelleth with them, and fhall be in them Say not then, lo here is Chrift, or lo there, for he dwelleth in the hearts of his faith

ful people. To go to Jefus, is to believe in him, to put our truft in him, to obey him. Go unto Jefus, and what he faith unto you, do, go and confult his holy word; let the Scriptures be your ftudy and delight, for they are able through faith, to make you wife unto falvation. I fay, through faith, for without faith, the words of Chrift himfelf, even from his own mouth, would not profit. There must be a willing ear, and a heart disposed to obey, or the faving doctrine of Christ's Gospel will leave you, as it finds you. You muft go to Jefus, as the hungry to be fed You muft receive of him the bread of life, for the nourishment of your foul You must apply what you read and hear to your own wants and neceffities. So fhall the word preached profit: So fhall you give teftimony
