New Mexico became the forty-seventh state of the Union, January 6, 1912, when the proclamation of statehood was signed by President Taft. Dr. James V. May, of Binghamton, was appointed member and president of the State Commission in Lunacy, December 30, 1911. in place of Dr. Albert Warren Ferris whose term had expired. Justice George F. Lyon, of Binghamton, was designated a member of the Appellate Division, third department, January 12, 1912, to succeed Justice Sewell whose term had expired. Seymour Van Santvoord, of Troy, was appointed Counsel to the Governor, December 29, 1911, to succeed William Church Osborn, resigned. James A. D. S. Findlay, of Salisbury Mills, was appointed November 22, 1911, to fill the vacancy in the Advisory Board for the Promotion of Agriculture. George M. Janvrin, of Brooklyn, was appointed Port Warden of the Port of New York, to succeed Fred. O. Appleby whose term expired April 18, 1911. Appointment confirmed January 16, 1912. Duncan W. Peck, of Syracuse, was appointed Superintendent of Public Works, to succeed Charles E. Treman, resigned. Appointment confirmed January 16, 1912. Calvin J. Huson, of Penn Yan, was appointed Commissioner of Agriculture, to succeed Raymond A. Pearson, whose term had expired. George W. Driscoll, of Syracuse, was appointed State Fair Commissioner January 16, 1912, in place of DeForest Settle, resigned. Joseph A. Kellogg, of Glens Falls, became First Deputy Attorney-General January 1, 1912, and Henry Selden Racon became Second Deputy Attorney-General on the same date. Dwight B. La Du succeeded John A. O'Connor as Division Engineer, Eastern Division. Daniel F. Breitenstein, of Utica, was appointed United States Marshal for the northern district of New York, in place of Van Rensselaer Wheeler, deceased. The death of Judge Lucian L. Shedden, of Plattsburgh, January 17, 1912, leaves a vacancy in the Board of Regents. |
