To the Legislature: Complying with the provisions of the statutes, I herewith submit the annual report of the Comptroller on the State canals for the fiscal year ended June 30, 1922. The consolidated statement of cash transactions Exhibit No. 2 shows the total receipts of all of the canal funds, including investments, revenues, appropriations and transfers to have been $16,141,027.37, while the total of expenditures, transfers and investments were $24,517,637.06. The cash balance on band at the beginning of the year was $19,495,125.99. Adding to this the total receipts as above state l and deducting the total expenditures leaves a cash balance on hand at the end of the year of $11,118,516.30 distributed among the various funds as shown in Exhibit No. 2. CONSTRUCTION EXPENDITURES The total expenditures for the construction of canals for the past year were $4,826,510.70 compared with $7,241,450.28 for the preceding year.
