The Negro Bonds and some of the accounts due from individuals and other Companies are standing on our books at Confederate prices, but in rendering this exhibit, they have been reduced to that, which, in equity would be considerad just to all parties.

The loss to this Company, occasioned by default of the Confederate Government, in round numbers, amounts to! $550,000.

The damages to the road and machinery, occasioned by the operations of the military, are estimated, in present currency, to amount to $75,000.

The State of North-Carolina owns no stock in the road. Her aid was given by exchange of Bonds.

The following statement will show the debts and available assets of the Company:

The cost of completing the whole road, with a full amount of equipment, according to the original estimates, is less tha $1,500,000. malt ponbat at alle maid jou svad 1 The amount which will become due from the State of North Carolina, as the different sections according to the charter, will amount to $1,150,000. This, with the balance which is shown to the credit of the Company in the foregoing statement, and the receipts from that portion of the road which is in operation, is amply suffi cient, with prudent management, to complete the road, and put at it in successful operation. The enclosed statement will show the amount and condiOion of our machinery and rolling stock. I have, already, contracted with parties in the Northern States, upon a credit of twelve months, for such additions to this machinery as will enable us to work the road with advantage to th to the Company and to the public at large. I have, also, purchased the • Steamer steamer "General Howard." She is nearly new-has been put in perfect order, and is running daily in the service of the Company.
