PROCLAMATIONS.

PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR.

I, ROBERT S. GREEN, governor of the state of New Jersey, do hereby designate Thursday, the twenty-ninth day of November, instant, as a day of thanksgiving and praise to Almighty God, for all His blessings to us as a people, during the year now drawing to a close. The soil has yielded its produce bounteously; prosperity has attended the labors of industry, and by His mercy we have been spared from the ravages of disease.

I recommend that on that day the people of this state, abstaining from all unnecessary secular employment, meet in their accustomed places of worship, and give thanks to God for all His goodness in the past, with prayer, that He will bless us and all others with a continuance of His bounty, and the nation, state and people with peace, prosperity and happiness.

Given under my hand and privy seal, in the city of Trenton, this fifth day of Novemin the year of our Lord one thousand eight [Privy Seal.] hundred and eighty-eight, and of the independence of the United States the one hundred and thirteenth.

PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR.

Whereas, notice and information has been given me, as provided by law, that E. Frank Short, who was duly declared to have been elected, at the last general election, a member of the next general assembly of this state, in the tenth assembly district of the county of Hudson, died on the ninth day of December, instant, whereby a vacancy has occurred in the representation of said county of Hudson in said general assembly;

Therefore, I, ROBERT S. GREEN, governor of the state of New Jersey, by requirement of law, do hereby issue this my proclamation, commanding and requiring that an election be held according to law, in the said tenth assembly district of the said county of Hudson, on Tuesday, the eighth day of January next ensuing the date hereof, for the purpose of electing a member of the general assembly of this state to fill the vacancy occasioned by the death of the said E. Frank Short.

PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR.

Whereas, the governor is, by joint resolution adopted February twenty-first, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-four, authorized to issue a proclamation annually, setting apart a day in April for the planting of forest trees, and recommending that the day be devoted for that purpose;

And whereas, it is represented that such planting will be more successful if different days be so named for different sections of the state;

Now, therefore, pursuant to the said authority, I, ROBERT S. GREEN, governor of the state of New Jersey, do hereby set apart Friday, April twelfth, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, in the county of Burlington, and in all counties south of Burlington county, and Thursday, April eighteenth, one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine, in all counties of the state north of the county of Burlington, for the planting of forest trees, and recommend that the day be devoted by the people to that purpose.

In testimony whereof, I have hereunto set my hand and caused the great seal of [Great Seal.] the state to be hereunto affixed, at Trenton, this twenty-ninth day of March, A. D. one thousand eight hundred and eighty-nine. ROB'T S. GREEN.

PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR.

I, ROBERT S. GREEN, governor of the state of New Jersey, by authority of law, do proclaim and make known that, in conformity to the sixth section of the act entitled "An act providing for declaring and making known that certain laws and joint resolutions have become inoperative and void," approved March third, eighteen hundred and seventy-three, the comptroller of the treasury of this state has duly reported to me that an act of the legislature of this state, entitled "An act for the relief of Cornelius Hunter, of the township of Byram, in the county of Sussex, passed April second, eighteen hundred and eighty-nine, has become inoperative and void for the reason that the parties interested therein have failed to pay the sum assessed thereon and declared to be payable thereon, according to the requirements of the act entitled "An act to increase the revenue of the state of New Jersey," approved March sixth, eighteen hundred and fifty-eight, and the supplement thereto, approved March eighteenth, eighteen hundred and fifty-nine.

Given under my hand and the great seal of the state of New Jersey, at Trenton, [Great Seal.] this sixteenth day of July, A. D. eighteeen hundred and eighty-nine.

PROCLAMATION BY THE GOVERNOR.

It having been represented that uncertainty exists with reference to the observance of the first Monday of September as a legal holiday, proclamation is hereby made that by virtue of an act of the legislature of said state, approved April 8th, 1887, the first Monday of September, to be known as Labor Day, is a legal holiday, on which no court shall be held, except in cases where said court would sit upon a Sunday, and on which no person can be compelled to labor by any person or corporation.
