CONTINGENT EXPENSES, NAVY DEPARTMENT: For professional and technical books and periodicals, law books, and necessary reference books, including city directories, railway guides, freight, passenger, and express tariff books for department library, two thousand dollars.

For stationery, furniture, newspapers, plans, drawings, drawing materials, horses and wagons to be used only for official purposes, freight, expressage, postage, typewriters and computing machines and exchange of same, and other absolutely necessary expenses of the Navy Department and its various bureaus and offices, forty thousand dollars; it shall not be lawful to expend, for any of the

offices or bureaus of the Navy Department at Washington, any sum out of appropriations made for the naval establishment for any of the purposes mentioned or authorized in this paragraph. For the rental of Mills Building, authorized by Act of Congress 32, p. 565. approved July first, nineteen hundred and two, twenty-four thousand five hundred dollars.

For connected and separate United States and other maps, pre- Maps. pared in the General Land Office, twenty thousand dollars: Provided, That of the United States maps procured hereunder seven thousand two hundred copies shall be delivered to the Senate and fourteen thousand four hundred copies shall be delivered to the House of Representatives, five hundred copies shall be delivered to the Commissioner of the General Land Office, and the residue shall be delivered to the Secretary of the Interior for distribution. And all maps delivered to the Senate and House of Representatives hereunder shall be mounted with rollers ready for use.
