Kent M. Brudney is Professor of Political Science at Cuesta Community College in San Luis Obispo, CA. Professor Brudney previously taught at Converse College, South Carolina, and at California Polytechnic State University. He has held a Fulbright Fellowship and several grants from the National Endowment for the Humanities. He received the Kathyrne Amelia Brown Faculty Award at Converse College and the teaching excellence award at Cuesta College. Brudney's essays on Machiavelli and American political thought have appeared in several collections, and he has been published in several journals, including POLITICAL THEORY. John H. Culver is Professor of Political Science at California Polytechnic State University in San Luis Obispo, CA. Professor Culver has taught at state colleges in Missouri and Colorado as well. Professor Culver is the co-author of POWER AND POLITICS IN CALIFORNIA (1988), THE POLITICS OF STATE COURTS (1992), and POLITICS AND PUBLIC POLICIES IN CALIFORNIA (1997). He has also published numerous articles and book chapters on capital punishment, judicial behavior, and California politics. Mark E. Weber is Professor of History and Political Science at Cuesta College in San Luis Obispo, CA. Prior to joining the faculty at Cuesta College, Professor Weber was the Program Director for the Chapman College Academic Center at the California Men's Colony prison in California. He is a member of the American Historical Association and Organization of American Historians. He has published political commentaries in The Los Angeles Times, The Baltimore Sun, The Detroit Free Press, and other papers.
