REPORT

[To accompany H. R. 5401]

The Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H. WAR DEPARTMENT, November 30, 1929. Respectfully returned to the chairman Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, House of Representatives.

So far as the interests committed to this department are concerned, I know of no objection to the favorable consideration of the accompanying bill, H. R. 5401, 71st Cong., 1st sess.), granting the consent of Congress to the police jury of

on

Morehouse Parish, La., or the State Highway Commission of Louisiana to struct free highway bridges across Bayou Bartholomew at or near each of the following-named points in Morehouse Parish, La., Coras Bluff, Knox Ferry, Bon ners Ferry, and Parkers Ferry, if amended as indicated in red thereon.

Hon. JAMES S. PARKER,

PATRICK J. HURLEY,

Acting Secretary of War.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE,
Washington, D. C.. November 29, 1929.

Chairman Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce,

House of Representatives.

DEAR MR. PARKER: Careful consideration has been given to the bill K. R. 5401, transmitted with letter of November 22 from Elton J. Layton, clerk, with request for a report thereon and such views relative thereto as the department might desire to communicate.

This bill would authorize the police jury of Morehouse Parish, La., or the State Highway Commission of Louisiana, their successors and assigns, to construct, maintain, and operate free highway bridges across Bayou Bartholomew at or near each of the following-named points in Morehouse Parish, State of Louisiana: Coras Bluff, Knox Ferry, Bonners Ferry, and Parkers Ferry. Neither of the named locations is on the system of Federal-aid highways approved for Louisiana. However, the bill would authorize the parish or the State to construct the bridges and operate same as free highway bridges. The department, therefore, recommends favorable action on the bill.

BRIDGE ACROSS CHOCTAWHATCHEE RIVER BETWEEN HARTFORD AND BELLWOOD, ALA.

DECEMBER 16, 1929.-Referred to the House Calendar and ordered to be printed

The Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, to whom was referred the bill (H. R. 5415) to legalize a bridge across the Choctawhatchee River between Hartford and Bellwood, Ala., having considered the same, report thereon with a recommendation that it pass.

The bill has the approval of the War and Agriculture Departments, as will appear by the letters attached and which are made a part of this report.

WAR DEPARTMENT, November 29, 1929. Respectfully returned to the chairman Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce, House of Representatives.

So far as the interests committed to this department are concerned, I know of no objection to the favorable consideration of the accompanying bill (H. R. 5415, 71st Cong., 1st sess.), to legalize a bridge across the Choctawhatchee River between Hartford and Bellwood, Ala.

Hon. JAMES S. PARKER,

PATRICK J. HURLEY,
Acting Secretary of War.

DEPARTMENT OF AGRICULTURE,
Washington, D. C., November 29, 1929.

Chairman Committee on Interstate and Foreign Commerce,

House of Representatives.

DEAR Mr. PARKER: Careful consideration has been given to the bill H. R. 5415, transmitted with letter of November 22 from Elton J. Layton, clerk, with request for a report thereon and such views relative thereto as the department might desire to communicate.

This bill would legalize the bridge now being constructed across the Choctawhatchee River between Hartford and Bellwood, Ala., by the Chattahoochee & Gulf Railroad Co. if completed in accordance with plans accepted by the Chief of Engineers and the Secretary of War. The bill relates to a railroad bridge which it would appear is already under construction. It, therefore, is without objection so far as this department is concerned.

Sincerely,

R. W. DUNLAP, Acting Secretary.
