6. 7. as valued and assessed by assessors, within the respective limits of the said townships at their last assessments; and the inhabitants of the said township of Commercial shall be liable to pay their just proportion of the debts, if any there be due, and to support and maintain the paupers so allotted to them; and if any of the persons composing either of the town committee shall refuse or neglect to meet as aforesaid, those assembled may proceed to make the said allotments and division, and the decision of a majority of those present shall be final and conclusive; provided, that it shall and may be lawful to adjourn the above meeting to such time and place within said township of Downe as a majority of those assembled may think proper.

CHAPTER XCVI.

An act to authorize the Chosen Freeholders of Middlesex
County to Widen the Mill-dam on the main street in the
Village of Cranbury in Cranbury Township.

WHEREAS, The mill-dam in the village of Cranbury consti-
tutes a part of the public highway; and whereas, it is nec-
essary for the safety of the traveling public that it should
extend to a safe and legal width,

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of freeholders the State of New Jersey, That the chosen freeholders of the width of county of Middlesex are hereby empowered to extend the mill-dam. width of the mill-dam in the village of Cranbury, in Cran. bury township, to be of equal width of the main street in said village.

2. And be it enacted, That this act shall be called a public act, and shall take effect immediately. Approved February 27, 1874.

1. CHAPTER CV.

An act to better enable the voters of the several Road Districts in the Township of Upper Alloways Creek, County of Salem, to elect their Road Overseers by ballot.

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of roads how the State of New Jersey, That at the annual town meeting held in the township of Upper Alloways Creek, in the county of Salem, there be on each of the ballots voted the name of one candidate, for each district only, for the office of overseer of roads, with the title of the district in which he is a candidate.

2. And be it enacted, That all acts and parts of acts in conflict with the provisions of this act be and the same are hereby repealed, and that this act shall take effect immediately.

An act to incorporate the borough of Merchantville.

1. BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State of New Jersey, That the village of Merchantville, in the county of Camden, shall be and the same is hereby created into a borough, which shall be called the borough of Merchantville, and shall be bounded and limited as follows, to wit:
