By Mr. Ayers, House file No. 234, a bill for an act to continue in force all statements of consent of real estate owners and all resolutions and certified copies of resolutions of cities and incorporated towns, and all boads filed in the office of any county auditor prior to October 1, 1897, consenting to the sale of intoxicating liquors, according to chapter 62 of the acts of the Twenty-fifth General Assembly, and chapter 25 of the acts of the Twenty-sixth General Assembly of Iowa.

Mr. Buchanan offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

WHEREAS, The Hon. Theron A. Morgan of Wapello county, a respected member of the Seventh General Assembly and the Eleventh General Assembly has departed this life,

Resolved, That a committee of three be appointed to present suitable resolutions commemorating the life and work of the deceased.

The motion prevailed and the resolution was adopted by a rising vote.

The Speaker appointed as such committee Messrs. Buchanan, Wilson of Keokuk and Conley.

Mr. Veneman offered the following concurrent resolution:

MR. SPEAKER-Resolved, By the House, the Senate concurring: That the custodian is hereby authorized to procure two suitable flags to be displayed during the session in the Senate and House chambers.

The resolution went over under rule 34.

Mr. Eiker offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

Resolved, that a committee of five be appointed by the Speaker to draft resolutions in memory of the Hon. M. Wemple, deceased, who was a member of the Twenty-seventh General Assembly.

The motion prevailed and the resolution was adopted by a rising vote.

The Speaker appointed as such committee Messrs. Eiker, Keck, Baker, Cottrell and McAleer.

Concurrent resolution, relative to directing the executive council to have printed two thousand (2,000) copies of itemized statement required by section one hundred and sixty-three (163) of the code, was taken up, and on motion of Mr. Theophilus the resolution was adopted.

BILLS ON SECOND READING.

House file No. 80, a bill for an act to amend section 1873, of chapter 12, ti le 9 of the code, relating to reports of banks, with report of committee recommending amendment and passage was taken up, cousidered and on motion of Mr. Bennett the reports of the committee adopted.

Mr. Bennett moved that the following amendments recommended by the committee be adopted:

That the title of the bill be amended by inserting the words "eighteen hundred and seventy-three" before the figures "1873," and by inclosing said figures in brackets, and by striking out the words and figures "of chapter 12, title 9."

By inserting the words "eighteen hundred and seventythree" before the figures "1873," in the first line of section 1 of the bill, and by inclosing the figures in brackets. By striking out the words and figures "of chapter 12, title 9," in the first line of the said section, and by striking out the word "of " and figures "1897" in the second line of said section.

The motion prevailed and the amendments were adopted. Mr. Bennett moved that the rule be suspended, and that the bill be considered engrossed and the reading just had be considered the third reading, which motion prevailed.
