On request, Senate substitute for House file No. 44, a bill for an act to amend section 700 of the code of Iowa, as amended by the Twenty-seventh General Assembly of the state of Iowa, relating to the power of cities to regulate, license and tax certain kinds of business, with report of committee recommending amendments and passage was taken up, and on motion of Mr. Barrett, the report of the committee was adopted.

Mr. Barrett moved that the amendments recommended by the committee in the bill as follows be adopted:

A bill for an act to amend section seven hundred (700) of the code of Iowa, as amended by the Twenty-seventh General Assembly of the state of Iowa, relating to the powers of cities to regulate, license and tax certain kinds of business.

Be it Enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Iowa:

Section 1. That section seven hundred (700) of the code of Iowa, as amended by chapter 21 of the Twenty-seventh General Assembly of the state of Iowa, be amended by striking out the period at the end of said section as amended, and adding the following: and "steam boilers of more than seventy-five square feet of heating surface, or more than fifteen pounds pressure per square inch.

The motion prevailed and the amendments were adopted.

Mr. Barrett moved that the rule be suspended, and that the bill be considered engrossed and read a third time now, which motion prevailed, and the bill was read a third time.

On request of Mr. Cottrell, House file No. 187, a bill for an act to amend section 1560 of the code of 1897, relating to the service of notice to remove obstructions in public highways, with report of committee recommending amendments and passage was taken up, and on motion of Mr. Cottrell the report of the committee was adopted.

Mr. Cottrell moved the following amendments recommended by the committee be adopted:

Strike out of the second line of the title the words "of eighteen hundred and ninety-seven," and the numerals "1897."

Strike out of the second line of section 1 the words "of eighteen hundred and ninety-seven," and the numerals "1897."

Strike out section 2.

Carried.

So the bill was indefinitely postponed.

On request of Mr. Kirkwood, consideration of House file No. 21 was deferred for the present, and the bill allowed to retain its place upon the Calendar, by unanimous consent.

On request of Mr. Sokol, House file No. 66, a bill for an act providing for the payment by the state of costs and fees incurred in prosecutions for escaping from the penitentiary, with report of committee recommending passage, was taken up, considered, and on motion of Mr. Sokol, the report of the committee adopted.
