AMENDMENTS TO HOUSE FILE NO. 234.

Insert after the word "cities," in line 2 of the title, the words "cities acting under a special charter;" after the word "cities," in line 11, the words "cities acting under a special charter;" after the word "cities," in line 12, the words "cities acting under a special charter," and after the words "thereof," in line 16, the words "including such as may have been legalized." By inserting after the word "city," in line 2, section 1, of the bill, the words "city acting under a special charter;" in line 3, after the word "city," the words "city acting under a special charter;" after the figures 1897, in line 6, the words "including such thereof as may have been legalized." By inserting before the word "declared," in line 7, the words "legalized and," and before the word "state," in line 2, of section 2, the word "Iowa."

MR. SPEAKER-Your committee on Compensation of Public Officers, to whom was referred House file No. 138, a bill for an act to amend section 5716, chapter 2, of title 26 of the code, relating to the compensation of turnkeys and guards at the penitentiaries of Iowa, beg leave to report that they have had the same under consideration and have instructed me to report a substitute back to the House with the recommendation that the same do pass.

SUBSTITUTE FOR HOUSE FILE NO. 138-BY BARRETT.

A bill for an act to amend section five thousand, seven hundred and sixteen (5716) chapter two (2) of title twenty-six (26) of the code, relating to the compensation of turnkeys and guards at the penitentiaries of Iowa.

Be it Enacted by the General Assembly of the State of Iowa:

Section 1. That section 5716, chapter 2, title 26 of the code be and the same is hereby amended by adding thereto, "and that all overseers, deputies, turnkeys and guards shall have twelve days leave of absence each, during the year, when proper application is made to the warden of the penitentiaries at Anamosa and Fort Madison, who shall have the power to grant and regulate the same in regard to when leave of absence should be given, without reduction of their wages."

Mr. Hughes moved that House file No. 180 be made a special order for Tuesday, February 27th, at 10:30 A. M.

The motion prevailed.

Mr. Hurn offered the following resolution and moved its adoption:

Resolved, that there be a session of the House on Friday afternoon, the 23d, commencing at 2 o'clock.

The motion prevailed, and the resolution was adopted.

Mr. Warren moved that the House do now adjourn.

The motion prevailed and the House adjourned until 10 o'clock A. M., Friday, in accordance with the resolution adopted on Friday, February 16th.
