FIRST DAY.

MORNING SESSION.

HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES,

OLYMPIA, WASHINGTON, Wednesday, Nov. 6, 1889.

12 o'clock M.

Pursuant to the provisions of the Constitution of the State of Washington, the House met at the hour of 12 M., and was called to order by Wm. H. Hughes, assistant clerk of the last territorial session, and who called the roll.

All the members-elect were present except Mr. Day.

Nominations for speaker pro tem. were made as follows:

Mr. Huntington, of Cowlitz, nominated Mr. S. C. Herren, of Lewis, and Mr. J. S. Brown, of Spokane, nominated Mr. J. W. Feighan, of Spokane.

There being no further nominations, they were declared closed, and a ballot was ordered.

Mr. Gandy, of Spokane, and Mr. Plummer, of Jefferson, were appointed tellers.

The vote resulted as follows:

J. W. Feighan, 48 votes.

S. C. Herren, 21 votes.

Blank, 1 vote.

On motion of Mr. Herren, Mr. Feighan's election was made unanimous:

The chair announced that Mr. Feighan, having received a majority of all the votes cast, was elected speaker pro tem., and appointed two members to escort him to the chair.

The House then proceeded to the election of a chief clerk pro

tem.
