STEREOTYPED AT THE
BOSTON STEREOTYPE FOUNDRY

CAMBRIDGE:

PRINTED BY HOUGHTON AND HAYWOOD.

THE "Synoptical Index to the Laws of the United States," prepared under the direction of the Secretary of the Senate, is published pursuant to a resolution of the Senate passed April 19, 1850.

The publishers, under the authority of the Senate, have enlarged the work by making it embrace the laws of the Thirty-First Congress, and the treaties made public since 1849.

The references to the laws published since 1845 are made to the ninth volume of the Statutes at Large, the pamphlet editions published by Little & Brown, having been combined in a supplementary volume.

The references have been carefully verified, and every effort made to insure their accuracy.

BOSTON, 1851.

LITTLE & BROWN.

[blocks in formation]

THE Secretary of the Senate has the honor to report that the Synoptical Index to the Laws and Treaties of the United States, which, by a resolution of the 11th of January, 1849, he was directed to have prepared, has been completed, and is now submitted. In executing the work, the former Index has been verified and corrected, the new matter incorporated with the old, and references made, throughout the whole, to the edition of laws published by Bioren & Duane, with its continuation to the 3d of March, 1849, to the edition of the Statutes at Large, published by Little & Brown, to the same period, and to the pamphlet laws subsequently published under the authority of the Department of State, to the end of the last session of Congress.

All of which is respectfully submitted.

Hon. MILLARD Fillmore,

Vice President of the U. S.

and President of the Senate

ASBURY DICKENS,

Secretary of the Senate.
