done by Great Britain: and much has been done by the Society on behalf of which I am now pleading: but, look at the world, and let me ask you, Has enough been done?-No! not one thousandth part of what should have been done!

In this labour of love, Christians, we must abound more and more. If ever then you prayed for the cause of Christ among the Heathen before, pray more earnestly now: if ever you have used influence for the advancement of His glory before, use more now: if ever you have contributed before, contribute more now-that you may hasten the accomplishment of this Divine Predictionfrom the rising of the sun even unto the going down of the same, my Name shall be great among the Gentiles ; and, in every place, incense shall be offered unto my Name, and a pure offering; for my Name shall be great among the Heathen, saith the Lord of Hosts.

REPORT

OF THE

COMMITTEE:

DELIVERED TO THE *

ANNUAL MEETING,

HELD MAY 2, 1819,

AT FREEMASONS' HALL, GREAT QUEEN STREET.

REPORT,

&c. &c.

THE Committee are thankful, that they are able to report to the Society an increase, during its Twentieth Year, both in its Funds and its Labours.

FUNDS.

In reference to the Funds, the Committee would first call the attention of the Meeting to the

DIFFUSION OF MISSIONARY INTELLIGENCE.

Every year supplies additional confirmation of the truth of that which has been stated on former occasions that the support rendered to the Society at home is grounded on an enlightened conviction of the duty and privilege of taking part in its designs. In common with kindred Institutions, it rests all its claims to support, in its attempts to benefit mankind, on the reality and the magnitude of their guilt and misery.

The head of "Publications," therefore, in the Society's Accounts, is not considered by your Committee as at all partaking of the character of an article of unproductive expenditure. On the contrary, they can attribute the steady progress of the Society to no other cause, than the blessing of God on the wide diffusion and constant supply of intelligence, respecting the awful condition of the Heathen, and the efforts of Christians for their conversion.

D

The

expenditure of upward of 35007. during the Society's Nineteenth Year, in Publications of this nature, has yielded an ample return in the harvest of the Twentieth Year.

In the diffusion of Missionary Intelligence, the Committee recognise, with much satisfaction, the important services rendered by the Reports of the various Associations throughout the country. These Reports usually present a concise but luminous view of the Proceedings of the Society; and, connected with the practice, happily very general, of founding the Resolutions at Annual Meetings on such Proceedings, they are the means of awakening an intelligent interest in the Society's concerns.

EXERTIONS OF THE SOCIETY'S FRIENDS.

The increase of the Funds your Committee connect with the diffusion of Missionary Intelligence; but they would ever ascribe the practical influence of this intelligence, under the blessing of God, in a great measure to the forcible appeals, both in the Pulpit and at Public Meetings, of those unwearied Friends of the Society, who advocate its cause in all parts of the Kingdom.

The increasing business of the Society has required such incessant attention and superintendance on the part of the Secretary, that he has been able to assist, in the course of the year, at the Anniversaries of only two, not far distant, Associations,-that for Berkshire, at Reading; and that for the Town, County, and University of Cambridge.

The Assistant Secretary has continued his labours in this department-so important to the maintenance and extension of a Missionary Spirit. Having attended, at the end of May, the formation, at Sudbury, of a Branch of the Suffolk Association, he proceeded northward; and, in the early part of June, assisted at the Anniversaries of the York, Hull, Lincoln, and Gainsborough Associations. In August, he attended those of the Derbyshire, Birmingham, and Tamworth; the Berk
