(Signed) GEO. W. MEAD, President. (No. 31.) NEW YORK NORTHERN CENTRAL. December 20th, 1866. JAMES BARNES, ESQ., Yours of October 15th, has just been received by me. I have been away from home and was absent when your letter arrived here and was thrown on my table and got mislaid among my papers, where I have just found it and I hasten to reply. 1 The New York Northern Central Railroad Company has been dissolved, the project of building the road been abandoned. A meeting of the stockholders was held last season and it was voted to dissolve and to pay back the amount of capital paid in. Accordingly, after satisfying debts, the balance was paid back to the subscribing stockholders, and the company ceased to be. I supposed it unnecessary to make any report of that fact, and hence, did not send any statement of it. Respectfully yours, JOHN WELLS. THOMAS H. HERRING, President, and THOMAS W. DEMAREST, Acting Superintendent of operations of the Northern Railroad Company, being severally sworn, each for himself, deposes and says, that the statements in the annexed report, which has been signed by each of them, at the end thereof, are true and correct, according to the best of his knowledge, information and belief.
