January 8. John Bassett, employed by the company as foreman on bridges, while crossing the track at Malone station, was run over by an engine, which was backing up. He lived but a few hours. The cause of the accident was supposed to be the steam from another passing engine which enveloped the track and hid from view the one that ran over him. February 2. Dennis Casey, switchman at Altona, got on to a passenger car to ride to the switch, and on leaving it, slipped, bringing his head in contact with the car, throwing him on the track, when he was run over and killed. April 11. Mrs. Edward White was found in the morning, two miles west of Lawrence station, literally torn to pieces. Supposed to have been lying on the track intoxicated while the night passenger and freight trains passed. June 28. John Kilpatrick was killed at Chateaugay.
