This road was leased to the Buffalo, New York and Erie Railroad Company, October 1st, 1858, for the term of ten years, with the privilege of ten years more upon the same terms, the lessees covenanting at their own expense to furnish all the materials and run and operate the road during the term, and pay to the lessors, as rent, forty-eight per cent of the gross earnings annually, payable monthly. The lessees have sold and assigned their lease to the Erie Railway Company, which now runs and operates the road under and by virtue of the lease.
