of the families of volunteers from this city, serving in the defense of the National Union," passed December 16, 1861, and duly legalized by an act of the State Legislature (chapter 2), passed February 1, 1862.

These bonds bear interest at the rate of six per cent., and the principal is redeemable on the 1st day of February, 1863.

The third section of the act, chapter 185, passed April 12, 1862, provides that the amount of these bonds shall be raised by tax in the year 1863.

6. VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS' FAMILY AID FUND BONDS, No. 3.*— The ordinance authorizing the issue of these bonds was passed June 18, 1862, and is entitled, "An Ordinance to provide relief for the families of the Volunteers from the city of New York, serving in the army of the Union."

The amount issued in 1862 was

$500,000 00

These bonds are redeemable on the first day of July, 1865, and bear interest at the rate of six per cent. per annum, payable halfyearly on the first day of January and July in each year.

7. VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS' BOUNTY FUND BONDS.*-The issue of these bonds was authorized by an ordinance of the Corporation, entitled, "An Ordinance to promote the speedy recruitment of the several Regiments and Brigades of Volunteers from the city of New York, now organizing in this city, or actually at the seat of war," passed September 2, 1862.

The amount of said issue was

These bonds are reedeemable October 1, 1863, with interest at the rate of six per cent. per annum.

8. VOLUNTEER SOLDIERS' FAMILY AID FUND BONDS, No. 4.*— These bonds were issued in pursuance of an ordinance of the Corporation, entitled, “An Ordinance making an appropriation of five hundred thousand dollars for the continuation of the relief now afforded to soldiers' families," passed November 8, 1862.

The amount issued in 1862 was

The principal of these bonds is payable on the first day of November, 1865. They bear interest at six per cent. per annum, payable half-yearly, on the first day of May and November in each year.

9. CROTON WATER STOCK OF 1883.-The issue of this stock was authorized by chapter 372 of the Laws of 1860, as amended by chapter 181 of the Laws of 1861. The original act limited the amount to $1,000,000. The amendatory or supplemental act, passed in 1861, authorized an increase of $900,000 in the amount, making the total, $1,900,000. The ordinances relating to said stock were passed August 9, 1860, and October 4, 1861.

The amount issued in 1862 was

This stock bears interest at the rate of six per cent. per annum, payable quarter-yearly, on the usual quarter days, from the Sinking Fund for the Payment of Interest on the City Debt. The principal is redeemable on the first day of November, 1883, from the Sinking Fund for the Redemption of the City Debt.

The premiums realized on the above $250,000 of stock, amounted to $16,908.43, which was credited to the account of" Croton Water Works Extension and New Reservoir."

10. CENTRAL PARK IMPROVEMENT FUND STOCK OF 1876.-This Stock was authorized by chapter 85 of the Laws of 1860, and by an ordinance of the Corporation, passed April 25, 1860.

The amount issued in 1862 was

$604,600 00

The principal of this stock is redeemable on the first day of November, 1876, from the Sinking Fund for the Redemption of the City Debt, and the act above mentioned provides that the "said park shall be, and the same is hereby, specifically pledged for the redemption thereof." The interest is at the rate of six per cent. per annum, payable quarter-yearly from taxation.

There was realized for premiums on $333,000 of the stock issued in 1862, the sum of $9,990. The residue of the amount was sold

at par.
