Died at Total 58 Grand-children CHAPTER XII HON. JOHN L. BRIDGES A Justice of the Supreme Court of Kentucky 75 Anna P. Adair, the oldest daughter of Governor and Mrs. Katherine Adair, was born in South Carolina, April 8, 1786. She married Hon. John L. Bridges, who was Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Kentucky. Judge Bridges got considerable prestige by his decision in the celebrated case of Wilkersons and Taylor-in which case Sargeant S. S. Prentiss, distinguished himself in his wonderful defense of Wilkerson. It was in this "Change of Venue Case," that Judge Bridges was crowned with glory and distinction. In honor of his brilliancy, a painting was made of him and hung over the Judges' Seat in the Court House at Herrodsburg, Kentucky. Married 1803 75 Anna P. Adair Judge John L. Shelby, 96 97 I Richard Denney Shelby, who married Miss India (97) Richard Denney Shelby, was the son of Rosa Belle McGuire Shelby and William A. Shelby. He was an Aviator in the World War, first with the 139th Squadron, then with the 141st. He drove a Spad Machine, was made Flight Commander, and Captain of the 141st Squadron, and was decorated with the Distinguished Service Cross, at Chaumont, France, by Lieut. Col. Ulio. Captain Shelby's citation as copied from "Heroes All," reads: "Distinguished Cross Citation." 1st. Lieut. Richard Denney Shelby, A. S. 13th Aero Squadron, distinguished himself by extraordinary heroism, in connection with military operations against an armed enemy of the United States at Verdun, France, on Oct. 10th, 1918. Lieut. Shelby encountered six enemy planes at a very low altitude strafeing our trenches. He immediately attacked, and dispersed the planes, and by skillful maneuvering brought one of the planes down, just behind our own lines, and in recognition of his gallant conduct, he was awarded the Distinguished Service Cross. 1850 88 Benjamin F.
