On Dec. 17, the Rev. Dr. Berryman Green was elected coadjutor bishop, Protestant Episcopal, of the diocese of Virginia.

Thomas R. Purnell, federal judge for the Eastern District of North Carolina, died on December 19.

On December 19, President Roosevelt nominated Sherman Moreland, of New York, to be Associate Justice of the Philippine Supreme Court, to succeed James F. Tracey, resigned.

On the same date the President nominated Horace G. Knowles, of Deleware, to be Envoy Extraordinary and Minister Plenipotentiary to Nicaragua, and Heaton W. Harris, of Ohio, to be a consul general at large.

Rt. Rev. John S. Michaud, Roman Catholic Bishop of Burlington, Vt., died on December 22. On December 24, Nathan S. Jonas resigned as a member of the New York City Board of Education.

Representative Charles N. Brumm, of Pennsylvania, resigned on December 18. Foster Crowell, Commissioner of Street Cleaning, New York City, resigned on December 23, the resignation to take effect on January 1.
