(No. 92.) NEW YORK AND BOSTON EXTENSION. NEW YORK, January 6, 1876. D. M. GREENE, Esq., Deputy State Engineer and Surveyor: DEAR SIR.I beg to state that no progress has been made in the construction of the New York and Boston Extension Railroad since the date of my last report, December 24, 1874. Very respectfully yours, JOHN Q. HOYT, President. (No. 93.) NEW YORK, BOSTON AND MONTREAL. NEW YORK, January 6, 1876. D. M. GREENE, Esq., Deputy State Engineer and Surveyor: This corporation is formed by the consolidation of the New York and Boston Railroad, Putnam and Ďutchess Railroad, Dutchess and Columbia Railroad, Pine Plains and Albany Railroad and Harlem Extension Railroad, and has been so reported for the past two or three years. The New York and Boston division of this road, extending from High Bridge, on the Harlem River, to Brewsters, in Putnam county, was nearly finished when the panic commenced, in 1873. The grading was almost entirely done, bridges and masonry nearly completed, and nearly twenty-five miles of track laid, since which time there has been no work done upon it by the company, and it remains in about the same condition as it was then. It is now in the hands of a receiver, and is being foreclosed by the original bondholders of the New York and Boston Railroad. It is not being operated at all at present. The Dutchess and Columbia division of the road extends from near Fishkill-on-the-Hudson, to Millerton, and is being operated by J. F. Joy, receiver, and is also in process of foreclosure by the original Dutchess and Columbia bondholders. I presume Mr. Joy has already made his annual report of the operations of the road. The Harlem Extension division of this road extends from Chatham Four Corners to Rutland, Vermont; is under lease to, and is being operated by the Central Vermont Railroad Company, whose principal offices are at St. Albans, Vermont. I presume they have already reported to you its operations for the last year. The board of directors and officers of the New York, Boston and Montreal Railroad consist of the same gentlemen as in my report in 1874. I would add that it is expected that the New York and Boston division will be foreclosed and a new company organized, so as to complete and put in operation this division of the road during the coming summer. Very respectfully yours, ISAAC V. BAKER, President, and LYSANDER B. DANFORTH Chief Clerk of the New York and Canada Railroad Company, being severally sworn each for himself deposes and says, that the statements in the annexed report, which has been signed by each of them, at the end thereof, are true and correct, according to the best of his knowledge, information and belief.
