With the addition of this book the Michigan Digest includes cases that were decided at the opening of the October term of 1893, and which will be reported in volume 97 of our state reports. The original plan of the digest has been followed here. A few new titles have been added; some changes in the subdivision of the title INSURANCE have been suggested by the rapid growth of case-law bearing upon mutual benefit insurance; and it has been deemed advisable to arrange under the heading CITIES AND VILLAGES cases concerning the liability of municipalities other than townships for injuries from defective streets, bridges, etc. The feature of references to cases earlier than the period embraced in the primary purpose of this book, which references are for many titles and subtitles exhaustive, will, it is thought, be found useful. All cases here digested, with the exception of a few that have not been officially reported, are cited by the volume and page of the official reports. References to the unofficial series are sometimes given, but as a rule they have been omitted. A table of overruled cases precedes the text, and the latter is followed by an alphabetical table of cases, and by a full index. An elaborate table of cases cited, another of statutes cited, and a complete analytic index of all matter contained in the three volumes of the digest and in the entire series of the Michigan Reports, have been reserved for publication in the more convenient form of a separate volume.
