24 And a certain Jew, named Apollos, born at Alexandria an eloquent man, and mighty in the scriptures, came to Ephesus.

25 This man was instructed in the way of the Lord and being fervent in the spirit, he spake and taught diligently the things of the Lord, knowing only the baptism of John.

25 And he began to speak boldly in the synagogue: Whom, when Aquila and Priscilla had heard, they took him unto them, and expounded unto him the way of God more perfectly.

27 And when he was disposed to pass into Achaia, the brethren wrote, exhorting the disciples to receive him: who, when he was come, helped them much which had believed through

grace:

28 For he mightily convinced the Jews, and that publicly, shewing by the scriptures, that Jesus was Christ.

CHAPTER XIX.

AND it came to passs, that while Apollos was at Corinth, Paul having passed through the upper coasts, came to Ephesus; and finding certain disciples,

2 He said unto them, Have ye received the Holy Ghost since ye believed? And they said unto him, We have not so much as heard whether there be any Holy Ghost.

3 And he said unto them, Unto what then were ye baptized? And they said, Unto John's baptism.

4 Then said Paul, John verily baptized with the baptism of repentance, saying unto the people, that they should believe on him which should come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus.

உச அக்காலத்திலே அலேக்குசந்திரியா பட்டினத்திற் பிறந் தவனுமாய்ச் சாதுரியவானுமாய் வேதெழுத்துக்களில் வல்லவ னுமாய் இருக்கிற அப்பொல்லோஸ் என்று பேர்கொண்ட ஒரு யூதன் ஏபேசுபட்டினத்திற்குப் போனான்.

உரு அவன் கர்த்தருடைய மார்க்கத்தைக் குறித்து உபதேச ங்கேட்டு யோவான் கொடுத்த ஸ்நானத்தை மாத்திரம் அறிந்தவ னாய் இருந்துங் கர்த்தாவுக்கு உரியவைகளை மிகுந்த சாக்கிரதை யுள்ள மனதோடே பேசித் திட்டமாய்ப் போதகம்பண்ணிக் கொண்டுவந்தான்.

உச செப ஆலயத்திலே தயிரியமாய்ப் பேசினான். ஆக்கில் லாவும், பிரிஸ்கில்லாளும் அவன் பேசுகிறதைக் கேட்டபொ ழுது அவனைச் சேர்த்துக்கொண்டு பராபரனுடைய மார்க்கத் தை அவனுக்கு அதிக திட்டமாய்க் காண்பித்தார்கள்.

உஎ பின்பு அவன் அகாயா நாட்டிலே போகவேண்டுமென் றிருக்கையிற் சீஷர்கள் அவனை உபசாரஞ்செய்யும்படிக்குச் ச கோதரர் அவர்களுக்கு எழுதினார்கள்.

உஅ அவன் அங்கே சேர்ந்தபின்பு அவன் வெளியரங்கமாய் யூதர்களுடனே பலமாய்த் தருக்கம்பண்ணிக்கொண்டு இயேசு வே கிறிஸ்து என்று வேதவாக்கியங்களாலே தெளிவாய்க் கா ண்பித்தபடியாற் கிருபையினாலே விசுவாசிகளாய் இருந்தவர்க ளுக்கு மிகுந்த உதவியாய் இருந்தான்.

க அப்பொல்லோசென்பவன் கொரிந்து பட்டினத்தில் இரு க்கையிற் பவுல் மேலான தேசங்களில் திரிந்துகொண்டு ஏபே சுபட்டினத்திற்குப் போனபொழுது,

உ சில சீஷரைக் கண்டு நீங்கள் விசுவாசிகளானபொழுது பரிசுத்த ஆவியைப் பெற்றுக்கொண்டீர்களா என்றான்? அதற் கு அவர்கள் பரிசுத்த ஆவி உண்டென்று நாங்கள் கேள்விப்ப டவும் இல்லை என்றார்கள்.

ங அப்பொழுது அவன் சொன்னது, அப்படியானால் எப்ப டிப்பட்ட ஞானஸ்நானம் பெற்றீர்கள் என்றான்? அவர்கள் யோவான் கொடுத்த ஸ்நானத்தைப் பெற்றோம் என்றார்கள்.

ச அப்பொழுது பவுல் சொன்னது, யோவான் தனக்குப் பி ன் வருகிறவராகிய கிறிஸ்து இயேசுவை விசுவாசிக்கவேண்டு மென்று சனங்களுக்குச் சொல்லி மனந்திருப்புதற்கேற்ற ஞா

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6 And when Paul had laid his hands upon them, the Holy Ghost came on them; and they spake with tongues, and proph esied.

7 And all the men were about twelve.

8 And he went into the synagogue, and spake boldly for the space of three months, disputing and persuading the things con cerning the kingdom of God.

9 But when divers were hardened, and believed not, but spake evil of that way before the multitude, he departed from them, and separated the disciples, disputing daily in the school of one Tyrannus.

10 And this continued by the space of two years; so that all they which dwelt in Asia heard the word of the Lord Jesus, both Jews and Greeks.

11 And God wrought special miracles by the hands of Paul:

12 So that from his body were brought unto the sick handkerchiefs or aprons, and the diseases departed from them, and the evil spirits went out of them.

13 Then certain of the vagabond Jews, exorcists, took upon them to call over them which had evil spirits, the name of the Lord Jesus, saying, We adjure you by Jesus whom Paul preacheth.

14 And there were seven sons of one Seeva, a Jew, and chief of the priests, which did so.

15 And the evil spirit answered and said, Jesus I know, and Paul I know; but who are ye?

16 And the man in whom the evil spirit was, leaped on them, and overcame them, and prevailed against them, so that they fled out of that house naked and wounded.

ரு அதை அவர்கள் கேட்டபொழுது அவர்கள் கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுவினுடைய நாமத்தினாலே ஞானஸ்நானம் பெற்றார்கள். சு அல்லாமலும் பவுலு அவர்கள்மேலே கைகளைவைத்தபொ ழுது பரிசுத்த ஆவியானவர் அவர்களிடத்தில் வந்தார். அவர்க ள் அந்நியபாஷைகளைப் பேசித் தீர்க்கதரிசனஞ் சொன்னார்கள். எ அந்த மனிதர் எல்லாரும் ஏறக்குறையப் பன்னிரண்டுபே

ராம்.

அ பின்பு (பவுலு) செப ஆலயத்திற்குப் போய்த் தயிரியமாய் ப் பிரசங்கம்பண்ணி மூன்றுமாதமளவும் பராபரனுடைய இரா ச்சியத்திற்கு உரியவைகளைப் பேசித் தெளிவாய்க் காண்பித்து க்கொண்டுவந்தான்.

கூ சிலர் கடினமான மனதுள்ளவர்களுமாய் அவிசுவாசிகளு மாய் இருந்து கூட்டத்திற்கு முன்பாக இந்த மார்க்கத்தை நிந் தித்தபொழுது அவன் அவர்களை விட்டு விலகிச் சீஷரை அவ பர்களில் இருந்து பிரித்துக்கொண்டு திரன்னு என்பவனுடையப் ள்ளிக்கூடத்திலே நாடோறுஞ்சம்பாஷித்துக்கொண்டுவந்தான். ய இப்படி இரண்டு வருஷம் நடந்தது. அதினாலே ஆசியாவி லே குடியிருந்த யூதர்கள் கிரேக்கர் இவர்கள் எல்லாருங் கர்த்த ராகிய இயேசுவைக்குறித்து வசனத்தைக் கேள்விப்பட்டார்கள். யக அன்றியும் அதிசயமான அற்புதங்களைப் பராபரன் பவு லுவின் கைகளினாலே செய்துவருகையில்,

யஉ அவனுடைய சரீரத்தில் இருந்த வேர்வைச் சேலைகளை யும், கச்சைகளையும் வியாதியுள்ளவர்கள்மேல் வைத்தவுடனே வியாதிகள் அவர்களைவிட்டு நீங்கிப்போயின. பொல்லாத ஆ விகளும் அவர்களில் இருந்து புறப்பட்டன.

யங அப்பொழுது தேசாந்திரிகளாய்த் திரிகிற மந்திரவாதிக ளாகிய யூதரிற் சிலர் பொல்லாத ஆவிகள் பிடித்திருந்தவர்கள் மேற் கர்த்தராகிய இயேசுவின் நாமத்தைச் சொல்லத் துணிந்து பவுல் பிரசங்கிக்கிற இயேசுவின்பேரிலே உங்களுக்கு ஆணை யிடுகிறோம் என்றார்கள்.

யச பிரதான ஆசாரியனாகிய இஸ்கோவா என்னும் யூதனு டைய குமாரர் ஏழுபேர்களே அப்படிச்செய்தார்கள்.

வ

யரு அவர்களுக்கு உத்தரவாகப் பொல்லாத ஆவி சொன்ன தாவது, இயேசுவை அறிந்திருக்கிறேன். பவுலுவையும் அறிவே ன். நீங்கள் ஆர்? என்று சொன்னவுடனே,

யக பொல்லாத ஆவியை உடைய மனிதன் அவர்கள்மேற் பாய்ந்து அவர்களைத் தனக்குட்படுத்திச் செயிக்க அவர்கள் நிரு வாணிகளாயுங் காயம்பட்டவர்களாயும் அந்த வீட்டைவிட்டு

17 And this was known to all the Jews and Greeks also

dwelling at Ephesus

and fear fell on them all, and the name

of the Lord Jesus was magnified.

18 And many that believed came, and confessed, and shewed their deeds.

19 Many of them also which used curious arts, brought their books together, and burned them before all men; and they counted the price of them, and found it fifty thousand pieces of silver. 20 So mightily grew the word of God, and prevailed.

21 ¶ After these things were ended, Paul purposed in the spirit, when he had passed through Macedonia, and Achaia, to go to Jerusalem, saying, After I have been there, I must see also Rome.

22 So he sent into Macedonia two of them that ministered unto him, Timotheus and Erastus; but he himself stayed in Asia for a season.

23 And the same time there arose no small stir about that way.

24 For a certain man named Demetrius, a silver-smith, which made silver shrines for Diana, brought no small gain unto the craftsmen;

25 Whom he called together with the workmen of like occupation, and, said, Sirs, ye know that by this craft we have our wealth.

26 Moreover, ye see and hear, that not alone at Ephesus, but almost throughout all Asia, this Paul hath persuaded and turned away much people, saying, that they be no gods which are made with hands:

27 So that not only this our craft is in danger to be set at nought; but also that the temple of the great goddess Diana
