SECTION I.

2. If 56 tenpenny loaves can be got from a quarter of wheat, how many eightpenny loaves will it yield?

SECTION II.

1. What sum will amount to 277. in one year at 5 per cent. ?

2. What is the difference between the interest and discount upon 5001. for 12 years at 5 per cent. ?

SECTION III.

1. Four men have a sum of money to be divided among them in such a manner that the first shall have of it, the second, the third, and the fourth the remainder, which is 287. What is the sum?

2. A sum of 8007. is to be paid by instalments as follows: 2007. in 3 months, 2007. in 4 months, 4007. in 6 months. It is determined to pay the whole of this sum at once; after what number of months must the single payment be made, interest being allowed at the rate of 5 per cent.?

SECTION IV.

1. From a rectangular field containing 27 A. 2 R. 21 P. whose shorter side is 8 chains in length, a portion is to be cut off, by a line parallel to that side, containing 11 acres. Where must the division be made?

2. There is a field in the form of a trapezium, one of the diagonals of which is 65 chains in length, and the perpendiculars upon it from the opposite angles 28 chains and 33 5 chains respectively. What is the area of the field?

SECTION V.

2. What must be the height of a cone whose diameter is 8 inches, that it may contain as much as a sphere of the same diameter ?

Prove that,

GEOMETRY AND ALGEBRA.
SECTION I.

1. If at a point in a given straight line two other straight lines on the opposite sides of it make the adjacent angles together equal to two right angles, these two straight lines shall be in one and the same straight line.

2. Any two sides of a triangle are together greater than the third side.

SECTION II.
