THE NATURE OF CHRIST.

THIRD EDITION, 340 pages, price 3s. 6d. net.

PERSONAL AND PRESS NOTICES.

'I thank my dear friend, the Rev. William Marshall, for his new contribution to the honour and glory of our Lord Christ, and congratulate him on the lucid and straightforward simplicity with which he represents and confirms the New Testament Revelation of His Godhood in Manhood before the worlds were created, and now, and for evermore. It is very irrational and unphilosophical to contemplate God as merely a subjective Essence or Spirit; He is also, in the Son, the first Supreme and Causative Objective Form. I commend to readers, therefore, Mr. Marshall's valuable testimony.'-Rev. John Pulsford, D.D.

'The New Christology is summed up by the author in four propositions, which are widely different from those usually held by theologians; and yet they deserve consideration at their hands. We must leave detailed criticism to professional periodicals, and merely say that this is a notable book.'-The Aberdeen Free Press.

'A volume which will be welcomed by devout students of Scripture, to whom the simplification and humanisation of theology is a consummation devoutly to be wished.'-The Christian World.

PREFACE TO THE SECOND

THIS

EDITION

HIS new edition is largely altered from the former, both in substance and form. It is less discursive, more concentrated, and better fitted to attain the end in view. What is that end? It is to ascertain, if possible, what the Scriptures really teach, concerning the origin, nature and results of human Afflictions in all their different forms. This is a matter of great and universal interest, regarding which the opinions of men are very varied and confused; and if clearness of apprehension could only be attained, it would surely prove an immense comfort and blessing to mankind. pursuit of the truth about afflictions, it is not our purpose to appeal largely to human literature of any sort whatever, but chiefly to the sacred Scriptures, believing that from them-when patiently studied and honestly interpreted—we shall receive the truest and most reliable response attainable.
