NOTICE.

SECRETARY'S OFFICE, November, 1860.

By a Resolve passed April 6, 1859, the legislature directed that the Special Acts passed subsequently to the year 1848, be collated and published under the direction of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, in volumes as nearly as may be in conformity with the Special Laws heretofore published, and that a full and complete index of the matter contained therein be appended to each volume."

The undersigned, having been appointed to perform the duty required by the Resolve, has pursued in this collection, which makes the ninth and tenth volumes of the Series of the Private and Special Statutes of the Commonwealth, substantially the course adopted in former volumes. At the head and foot of each Act, references have been made to the previous and subsequent legislation upon the subject-matter contained therein, and in case of Railroads, where their rights or interests were even remotely or indirectly affected, the Acts have been referred to.

A full index has been made and appended to each volume, in accordance with the requirements of the Resolve. Especial care has been taken to attain accuracy in the comparison of these laws with the original parchments in the Secretary's Office, and in passing the work through the press.
