SECRETARY'S OFFICE, November, 1860.

By a Resolve passed April 6, 1859, the legislature directed “that the Special Acts passed subsequently to the year 1848, be collated and published under the direction of the Secretary of the Commonwealth, in volumes as nearly as may be in conformity with the Special Laws heretofore published, and that a full and complete index of the matter contained therein be appended to each volume."

The undersigned, having been appointed to perform the duty required by the Resolve, has pursued in this collection, which makes the ninth and tenth volumes of the Series of the Private and Special Statutes of the Commonwealth, substantially the course adopted in former volumes. At the head and foot of each Act, references have been made to the previous and subsequent legislation upon the subject-matter contained therein, and in case of Railroads, where their rights or interests were even remotely or indirectly affected, the Acts have been referred to.

A full index has been made and appended to each volume, in accordance with the requirements of the Resolve. Especial care has been taken to attain accuracy in the comparison of these laws with the original parchments in the Secretary's Office, and in passing the work through the press.

People's Bank.”
Be it enacted by the Senate and House of Representatives, in (eneral
Court assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows :

SECTION 1. The president, directors, and company, of Wax divide addi the People's Bank, in Roxbury, are hereby authorized to stock into shares divide the addition to their present capital stock, granted to them by the act of one thousand eight hundred and fortyeight, chapter one hundred and twenty-five, into shares of fifty dollars each ; and the time within which the same shall Time for paying be paid in, is hereby extended to the first Monday in April next.

An Act to incorporate the Columbian Fire and Marine Insurance

Chap. 2. Company. Be it enacted, &c., as follows :

SECTION 1. William Savage, Augustus Hemenway, and Corporators. Joseph Day, their associates and successors, are hereby made a corporation, for the term of twenty years, by the Term. name of the Columbian Fire and Marine Insurance Company, to be established in the city of Boston, for the purpose in Boston. of making maritime loans, and insurance against maritime losses, and against losses by fire, with all the powers and Powers and duprivileges, and subject to all the duties, liabilities, and restrictions, set forth in the thirty-seventh and forty-fourth chapters of the Revised Statutes.
