GENERAL LAWS.

CHAPTER I

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION FOR THE MILEAGE AND PER

DIEM PAY OF THE MEMBERS, AND THE PER DIEM PAY OF THE OFFICERS AND EMPLOYES OF THE TWELFTH LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF TEXAS.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Teras, That the sum of seventy-five thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be necessary, be and the same is bereby appropriated out of any moneys in the treasury not otherwise appropriated, for the mileage and per diem pay of members and the per diem pay of the officers and employes of the Twelfth Legislature of the State of Texas.

SEC. 2. That the certificate of the Secretary of the Senate, approved by the President thereof, or the certificate of the Chief Clerk of the Hoase, approved by the Speaker thereof, shall be sufficient evidence to the Comptroller, upon wbich he shall audit the claims and draw his warrants upon the I'reasurer for the respective amounts.

SEC. 3. That this act take effect from and after its passage.

CHAPTER II.

AN ACT MAKING AN APPROPRIATION TO DEFRAY THÈ PRINTING

AND CONTINGENT EXPENSES OF THE TWELFTH LEGISLATURE.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Teras, That the sum of fifteen thousand dollars, or so much thereof as may be required, be, and the same is bereby appropriated out of any unappropriated funds in the Treasury, to defray the printing and contingent expenses of the Twelfth Legislature; and that the certificates of the Secretary of the Senate and the Chief Clerk of the House of Representatives to the correctness of, and the approval of the chairman of contingent expenses' committees of the Senate and House, to the respective accounts against the two houses, shall be sufficient authority for the Comptroller to draw bis warrant upon the Treasurer for the several amounts charged against said fund.

SEC. 2. That this act take effect from its passage.

CHAPTER III.

AN ACT TO CREATE AND PROVIDE FOR THE ORGANIZATION OF

THE COUNTY OF RAINS.

SECTION 1. Be it enacted by the Legislature of the State of Texas, That a new county, to be called Rains county, is hereby established out of the following portions of Wood, Hunt, Hopkins and Van Zandt counties, bounded as follows, viz: Beginning on the north bank of Sabine river, at Collin's Ferry, known as Mud Bridge, thence in a northern direction through a tract of land known as the Jim Bridges tract, to the McMillan boundary line be-tween Wood and Hopkins counties, thence west with said line four miles into Hunt county, thence about south-west in a direct line to Hooker's mill on the east branch of Sabine river, thence down Sabine river with its meanderings to the place of beginning,

Sec. 2. J. B. Rabb, William M. McCord, Thomas Cain, Thomas Aldred and Thomas Bryant, be and they are hereby appointed commissioners, with full powers to organize said county, to employ a competent surveyor to run the lines of said county, and, as early as practicable, to ascertain the centre of said county, after which they shall select and place in nomination for the county seat of said county not less than two nor more than three places, within five miles of the centre, and order an election for said county seat, giving ten days' notice of the time of holding said election, at, at least, three public places in said county, wbich election shall be held at the town of Springville, in said ccunty-shall be held for four consecutive days, under the management and control of said commis
